About the role#
The Ithaca College Wellness Clinic seeks a Student Fitness Specialist to provide health and fitness services to faculty, staff, retirees, and students. This role offers practical experience in a clinical setting while supporting the daily operations of the fitness center.
What you'll do#
- Supervise the fitness floor and provide guided training to clients.
- Screen clients for health risks and conduct fitness evaluations or graded exercise tests.
- Develop and deliver personalized exercise programs.
- Ensure client safety through proper spotting, cuing, and exercise technique.
- Maintain facility records, equipment, and cleanliness, including laundering towels.
- Educate clients on health and wellness while maintaining professional rapport.
- Enforce clinic policies and follow safety procedures.
- Teach group exercise classes if interested.
What you'll need#
- You must be a matriculated student at Ithaca College. Preference is given to students in the Department of Exercise Science and Athletic Training or the School of HSHP.
- Availability to work during weekday operational hours between 6 am and 7 pm.
- A personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization, unless you are a graduate student in exercise science or an undergraduate who has completed specific required coursework.
- Knowledge of fitness testing, exercise techniques, and programming.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality and work with diverse groups of people.
- Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
- Ability to obtain certifications in Adult CPR/AED, HIPAA, Blood Borne Pathogen, and Harassment Prevention upon hiring.

- The role is part-time and on-site.
- Opportunities are available for the Winter 2027 and Summer 2027 terms.
