About the role#
The Student Communications Assistant supports the administrative team at Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Tompkins County. This role helps you build storytelling skills and gain experience with nonprofit practices. You will work on a variety of tasks including writing, photography, and graphic design. The experience is tailored to your specific education and career goals.
What you'll do#
- Research topics, conduct interviews, and write articles about community programs.
- Gather material for a monthly e-newsletter.
- Take photos at public events and edit them for archives.
- Design posters, flyers, and other promotional materials.
- Review the website and suggest content improvements.
- Identify resources that align with the CCE mission.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment or intent to pursue a major in communications, writing, art, journalism, or a related field.
- A genuine interest in storytelling through words and images.
- Prior experience relevant to the role, even if outside of a professional setting.
- Comfort with design and collaboration tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or Google Suite is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Receptivity to feedback and strong communication skills.
- Previous experience in a nonprofit office is helpful but not required.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Ithaca, New York, at 615 Willow Ave.
- The work is hybrid, requiring some time in the office and some remote work.
- You will work 8-12 hours per week on a flexible schedule.
- This is a paid position at $17.00 per hour.
- This opportunity is available only to students awarded Federal Work Study.
