STUDENT-Commencement Rigging & Lighting Assistant

About the role#

This position supports the technical requirements for Commencement and related events. Assistants are responsible for the installation of rigging, trussing, lighting, and control systems, as well as serving as run crew for the event concert. Following the conclusion of the event, the crew will strike all equipment and prepare it for transport.

What you'll do#

• Unpack, prepare, and hang lighting fixtures onto trussing.
• Manage cabling according to technical plots and perform basic troubleshooting of fixtures.
• Assist with focusing lights and installing accessories such as gels, gobos, or top hats.
• Assemble truss sections using pins, bolts, and hammers.
• Support ground riggers with the preparation of motors, hoists, slings, and shackles.
• Loom and secure cables to trussing and maintain a safe work perimeter during overhead lifting.

What you'll need#

• Knowledge of entertainment lighting, sound, or rigging.
• Completion of relevant coursework is preferred.
• Ability to bend, kneel, and lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Availability to work from May 9th to May 18th.

Location & details#

• Location: Ithaca, New York.
• Term: Summer 2026.
• Pay: $16.45 per hour.
• Housing and meals are provided for on-campus students during the work period.
