STUDENT - ASC Peer Tutor

About the role#

Academic Support Center (ASC) Peer Tutors serve as student leaders who provide course content-specific support to fellow students. Often referred to as Learning Coaches, tutors help their peers build collegiate-level study skills and effective learning strategies to enhance critical thinking and course comprehension. This position offers an opportunity to facilitate adult development regarding academic responsibilities in both one-on-one and group settings.

What you'll do#

• Provide course content-specific tutoring for students in high-need and other courses.
• Facilitate Peer Learning Groups (PLuGs) and one-on-one sessions, working with individuals or groups of three or more.
• Assist tutees in developing collegiate-level study skills and learning strategies.
• Attend scheduled supervision, administrative meetings, and ad hoc trainings.
• Complete the required 0-1 credit online asynchronous training course (COLL 21500), unless meeting specific exemption criteria.

What you'll need#

• Excellent academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above and a faculty recommendation.
• Excellent judicial standing with no current Student Conduct violations.
• Completion of at least one semester of course experience at Ithaca College.
• Strong communication skills, a desire to grow and learn, and a commitment to student academic success.
• Preferred qualifications include sophomore standing, prior experience as a tutor or teaching assistant, and an understanding of cultural humility and safety for diverse populations.

Location & details#

• Location: Ithaca, New York.
• Work Modality: On-site.
• Compensation: Paid position ($16.30 - $16.60 per hour).
• Terms: Fall 2026, Winter 2026, and Summer 2026.
• Commitment: Students typically work 1-5 hours per week. Preference is given to applicants who can commit to a full semester or longer.
