About the role#
The Retail Dining Student Manager role is a leadership position responsible for maintaining smooth unit operations, supporting student staff, and ensuring a positive guest experience. Managers lead by example, organize team workflows, and provide training to peers. This role is designed to help students strengthen their leadership, communication, and organizational skills while gaining hands-on management experience.
What you'll do#
- Lead unit operations by overseeing daily workflows and ensuring consistent service quality.
- Assist management with routine administrative duties, including paperwork and operational checklists.
- Foster a positive, professional, and inclusive environment for the team.
- Complete opening and closing duties accurately according to standard procedures.
- Train and coach fellow student employees on station-specific tasks and dining standards.
- Anticipate operational needs and step in to support any station as required.
- Communicate operational updates and concerns to management in a timely manner.
- Attend mandatory training sessions, including Food Safety and management workshops.

- Previous leadership or customer service experience.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and make clear decisions.
- Comfort in taking direction from management while leading peers.
- Flexibility and dependability regarding scheduling.
- Willingness to learn all areas of unit operations.
Location & details#
- Location: Ithaca, New York.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Up to 3 shifts per week, with a 2-hour minimum per shift.
- Compensation: $16.30 per hour.
