    About the role#

    The Program Sidekick supports early literacy programs by helping with book distribution, assisting families in the play space at The Nook, and attending community events. This role is open to all students, though it is particularly relevant for those studying education, speech-language pathology, or occupational and physical therapy. This is a part-time position requiring 5 to 10 hours per week.

    What you'll do#

    • Clean, label, and stock children's books for distribution and at The Nook.
    • Prepare and install Story Walks at offsite locations.
    • Maintain cleanliness by tidying and cleaning toys.
    • Supervise The Nook during staff breaks.
    • Assist with setup and cleanup for birthday parties.
    • Attend community events to represent the program.
    • Provide office support such as printing and organizing.
    • Participate in team meetings and discussions.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a student at Ithaca College.
    • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend to retrieve items, and walk 1/2 mile on uneven terrain.
    • Comfort interacting with infants and young children.
    • A friendly, enthusiastic attitude when working with adults.
    • Strong English communication skills.
    • A love of books and reading.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    • Preferred: Access to a vehicle for offsite work, knowledge of early childhood or literacy development, and schedule flexibility.

    • This position is paid and requires Federal Work Study eligibility.
