About the role#
As a Community Corrections Specialist Intern, you will help guide clients toward pro-social behavior while maintaining the safety of the facility, staff, and the community. You will work under supervision to monitor compliance with rules and regulations for residential and non-residential clients. This is a part-time internship position requiring 10 to 25 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Educate new clients on facility policies and complete orientations.
- Conduct internal and external rounds to ensure safety and monitor compliance.
- Monitor client movement, sign-in procedures, and phone or on-site check-ins.
- Perform pat searches, room searches, and facility inspections for contraband.
- Administer urinalysis and breathalyzer testing.
- Document room assignments, medication logs, and incident reports.
- Supervise visitor arrivals and departures.
- Coordinate meal times and assign client chores.
- Manage client property, process deposits, and issue receipts.
- Attend required meetings and training sessions.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 6 months of experience in customer service or security.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
- Capability to remain calm and deescalate stressful or crisis situations.
- Understanding of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics relevant to the client population.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must pass a background check and maintain access to state criminal databases.
- Physical ability to walk through a multi-floor building frequently, move furnishings during searches, and lift up to 25 lbs.
