About the role#
The Intensive Case Management (ICM) program provides essential support to vulnerable refugee clients, including single-parent families, LGBTQ+ individuals, survivors of domestic violence, and those with complex medical or mental health needs. As an intern, you will collaborate with experienced caseworkers to guide clients toward self-sufficiency during their initial years in the United States.
What you'll do#
- Shadow caseworkers to learn the delivery of core services and social work interventions.
- Assist clients with benefits applications, job searches, medical insurance navigation, and personal finance tasks.
- Provide direct support through transportation to appointments, home visits, and client relocations.
- Support data compliance by managing case filing, case notes, and data entry.
- Participate in weekly casework team meetings and assist walk-in clients as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate program, or graduation within the last 6 months.
- Academic background in Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Human Resources, Public Health, Nursing, or related fields.
- Experience working with refugees, diverse populations, the elderly, domestic violence survivors, or people with disabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong English communication skills; fluency in additional foreign languages is preferred.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and operate within a cross-cultural team environment.
Location & details#
- Location: Salt Lake City, Utah.
- Term: Fall 2026 (August 24th to December 16th).
- Commitment: 15-20 hours per week, in blocks of 4 or more hours.
- Status: This is an unpaid volunteer internship.
