    About the role#

    The Food & Land Access Intern supports the New Roots program in Salt Lake City, which connects refugee families to community garden and farm sites. This role focuses on community engagement, program logistics, and promoting food access opportunities for New American populations.

    What you'll do#

    • Develop materials and curriculum for garden orientations covering season rules, gardening basics, and seed distribution.
    • Manage garden outreach and collect applications from interested clients.
    • Facilitate communication, training, and meetings for gardeners and farmers.
    • Support infrastructure projects and land preparation during garden and farm workdays.
    • Research community resources and food pantries to fulfill client support requests.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of programming on healthy food access and community engagement through data collection.

    What you'll need#

    • Background in nutrition, public health, health promotion, or environmental and sustainability studies.
    • Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort working with people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Gardening or farming experience is preferred.
    • A valid driver’s license, active insurance policy, and access to reliable transportation.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Salt Lake City, Utah.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Commitment: 5-15 hours per week, with a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and Saturdays.
    • Duration: 3-4 months.
    • Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
