The Financial Capability Program (FinCap) supports clients in achieving financial independence through education, credit building, and coaching. As a Financial Education Capabilities Intern, you will assist in delivering services that help clients navigate banking, budgeting, debt management, and asset building. This role provides an opportunity to gain experience in casework, financial literacy programming, and the integration process for refugees and asylees in the United States.
What you'll do#
- Reach out to potential clients to explain financial program services and products.
- Assess client needs, help define financial goals, and enroll individuals in relevant programming.
- Assist financial coaches with scheduling, client meetings, and the execution of financial workshops.
- Facilitate financial literacy workshops for clients.
- Lead the women’s financial empowerment program by providing gender-focused workshops to increase financial participation.
- Collaborate with colleagues to build and maintain effective working relationships.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an undergraduate or graduate program in Finance, Business Administration, Public Health, Psychology, International Relations, Sociology, Communications, or Human Resources.
- Self-motivated individual capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and writing skills, with a focus on cross-cultural interaction.
- Confidence in public speaking or a strong interest in developing these skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to change in a fast-paced environment.
- Language proficiency in Amharic, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, French, Kinyarwanda, Spanish, or Swahili is considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Silver Spring, Maryland.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September – December).
- Commitment: Minimum 3 months; 20+ hours per week required (35+ hours preferred).
- Modality: On-site.
- Status: Unpaid internship; per diem reimbursement of $15/day may be available to offset food and travel costs.
