    About the role#

    The Asylum Seekers and Families Program Intern will support the International Rescue Committee in San Diego by contributing to direct client services and community outreach. This role provides exposure to case management processes, the asylum system, and the delivery of culturally humble resources to individuals and families. This is an unpaid internship for the Fall 2026 term.

    What you'll do#

    • Support case management activities for asylum seekers and families.
    • Drive and accompany clients to essential appointments, including health check-ups, legal consults, and school enrollments.
    • Help clients navigate the San Diego public transit system by accompanying them on bus or metro trips.
    • Conduct screening calls for potential clients, working with interpreters to determine program eligibility.
    • Develop outreach materials and presentations to support program goals.
    • Network and build community partnerships and collaborations.
    • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the Safety and Wellness Department.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an Associate, Bachelor, or Master program in social work, public health, business, communications, economics, finance, political science, international relations, or a related field.
    • Prior experience in case work.
    • Demonstrated success communicating and working with individuals of varied English-speaking abilities.
    • Fluency in written and spoken English.
    • A current driver license and valid insurance.
    • Strong organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to take direction and complete tasks independently.

    Location & details#

    • Location: San Diego, California.
    • Modality: This position is primarily on-site.
    • Schedule: Interns may choose their hours within the office window of Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm PST. Regular and steady availability is preferred.
