About the role#
The Data Integration & Reporting Intern will contribute to the operational excellence of the International Rescue Committee in San Diego by supporting data management initiatives. This role focuses on data extraction, transformation, and loading processes to improve data reliability and support internal reporting needs. Interns will gain experience in ETL workflows, automation, and performance reporting while supporting programs focused on refugees and underserved communities.
What you'll do#
- Support data extraction from diverse sources, including file-based data, databases, and APIs.
- Assist in data transformation activities, such as cleaning, structuring, and standardizing datasets.
- Perform data loading tasks into internal systems, dashboards, or databases.
- Build scripts to automate recurring tasks, including Excel-based processes using macros and VBA.
- Assist in creating indicators, calculated fields, and key metrics to track program performance.
- Support ongoing improvements to internal data workflows and documentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience with data processing tools, specifically Python, Microsoft Excel, and SQL.
- Ability to extract, clean, and transform datasets, including merging tables and handling missing values.
- Familiarity with APIs for retrieving data and basic data modeling concepts.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Must pass the IRC background check.
