Asylum Program Data and Operations Intern

About the role#

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in New York is seeking a Data and Operations Intern to support the administrative and operational functions of a case management program serving asylum seekers. This role focuses on improving program efficiency, ensuring compliance with organizational standards, and strengthening the program's ability to measure impact. This is an unpaid, on-site internship.

What you'll do#

• Assist with the logistics of purchasing, tracking, and distributing client financial assistance, including gift cards.
• Support the development, implementation, and testing of system and process improvements related to data management.
• Utilize approved technologies, including Box and Microsoft 365 applications (such as Excel, SharePoint, Power Automate, Bookings, Forms, and Power BI), to enhance operations.
• Conduct data quality assurance activities to resolve inconsistencies and maintain data integrity.
• Prepare data dashboards and visualizations to support reporting and decision-making.
• Provide occasional support for client-facing activities, including program orientation, intake, and enrollment.
• Document workflows and procedures to promote consistency across the team.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a university, college, or post-secondary program.
• A strong interest in immigration, refugee, and asylum issues.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, multicultural, and multilingual environment.
• Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality and data privacy standards.
