About the role#
The International Rescue Committee in Louisville is seeking an intern for the Fall 2026 term to support our after-school program. This role focuses on helping middle and high school students navigate U.S. school systems while fostering confidence and social development. This is an unpaid, on-site, full-time internship.
What you'll do#
- Provide academic assistance, including tutoring and homework support.
- Organize after-school enrichment activities focused on cultural integration and social development.
- Coordinate transportation logistics for students to the program space.
- Plan educational outings and community-building events.
- Facilitate communication between students, families, and school staff.
- Support students in building confidence and adaptability within the school system.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or less than 12 months past graduation.
- Preferred fields of study include Education, Social Work, Psychology, Political Science, Human Resources, Sociology, or Public Health.
- Access to a personal vehicle or reliable transportation.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or hold active and compliant visas and work authorization status.
- Ability to handle sensitive client information with strict confidentiality.
- Strong intercultural communication skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
Location & details#
- Location: Louisville, Kentucky.
- Availability: Primary availability is required between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM EST on Mondays and Wednesdays.
- Training: In-depth training on IRC programming, federal service agreements, and client safeguarding will be provided.
