About the role#
The International Rescue Committee in Louisville is seeking an intern for our after-school program during the Fall 2026 term. This role supports middle and high school students as they adjust to U.S. school systems. You will work directly with students to build their confidence and help them navigate their educational environment.
What you'll do#
- Provide academic assistance, including tutoring and homework support.
- Organize after-school enrichment activities focused on cultural integration and social development.
- Coordinate transportation logistics for students to attend program sessions.
- Plan educational outings and community-building events.
- Facilitate communication between students, their families, and school staff.
- Support students in building academic and social adaptability.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student status, or graduation within the last 12 months. Preferred fields include Education, Social Work, Psychology, Political Science, Human Resources, Sociology, or Public Health.
- Availability on Mondays and Wednesdays between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM EST.
- Access to a personal vehicle or reliable transportation.
- U.S. citizenship or active, compliant work authorization. Please note that the IRC does not provide sponsorship for this position.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive client information.
- Strong intercultural communication skills and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

- This internship is based on-site in Louisville, Kentucky.
- This is an unpaid position.
- All internships are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
