    About the role#

    The Inter-American Development Bank is hiring a Research Intern for the Institutional Capacity of the State Division. This is a paid, full-time internship for the Winter 2027 term. You will work from our headquarters in Washington, D.C., to gain professional experience in development work and corporate management.

    What you'll do#

    You will support the preparation of a knowledge publication focused on State Effectiveness and Institutional Capacity in Guatemala. Your daily tasks include:

    • Conducting literature reviews on state capability, governance, public sector reform, and institutional capacity.
    • Collecting and organizing qualitative and quantitative evidence regarding public sector performance in Guatemala.
    • Assisting in the development of policy briefs, background papers, data summaries, and benchmarking exercises.
    • Contributing to the publication's concept note, outlines, and draft sections.
    • Preparing presentations, figures, tables, and references for internal and external audiences.

    What you'll need#

    • You must be an active graduate student (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Public Policy, Economics, Political Science, International Development, or a related field.
    • You must have completed at least 50% of your required graduate coursework.
    • You need fluency in English.
    • You must demonstrate knowledge of literature review methodologies, public policy analysis, and qualitative or quantitative research.
    • You need proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • You must be a national of an IDB member country.
    • This must be your first time participating in an IDB Internship Program.
    • You cannot have family members currently employed by the IDB or IDB Invest.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Washington, D.C.
    • Term: January 16, 2027, to March 15, 2027.
    • Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week).
    • Status: This is a paid, on-site position.
