About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to support food service operations for patients, visitors, and staff. You will assist with meal preparation, sanitation, and service tasks while gaining experience in a hospital environment. Please note that this role does not involve the use of specialized kitchen equipment such as commercial slicers, mixers, or garbage compactors.
What you'll do#
- Work at various stations within the patient meal service area.
- Deliver meals, carts, and supplies to patient units using two patient identifiers for accuracy.
- Serve food in retail areas and answer questions regarding menu items.
- Manage dishwashing and pot washing duties.
- Maintain a sanitary workspace and follow HACCP guidelines for food preparation, storage, and service.
- Monitor and record food and dish machine temperatures, as well as sanitizer levels.
- Stock supplies and fill in for other roles within the department.
- Practice proper hygiene, including hand washing and the use of hair restraints and gloves.
- Handle service recovery and communicate effectively with customers and staff.
- Follow safety guidelines for chemical storage and use proper body techniques when lifting or moving items.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a high school or GED program.
- Minimum age of 16 years.
- Ability to communicate complex or controversial concepts to a diverse audience.
- Customer service skills.
- A worker’s permit issued by your local high school district.
- An Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the Pennsylvania State Police.
- Food service, cash handling, or Servsafe certification is preferred but not required.

- This is a paid, full-time internship with a rolling term.
- Shifts are scheduled based on operational needs and may include rotations.
