    About the role#

    This internship offers a 10-week, full-time rotation through three core service lines within our Emergency and Disaster Management practice: Preparedness and Insurance, Emergency and Disaster Operations, and Disaster Recovery. You will work alongside consultants to see how these phases connect, from initial planning to active response and long-term rebuilding. This is a learning-focused experience where you will gain exposure to the daily work of our teams.

    What you'll do#

    • Rotate through three service lines to understand the full disaster lifecycle.
    • Gain exposure to emergency operations plan development, hazard and vulnerability assessments, and exercise design.
    • Learn about long-term recovery planning, insurance and risk transfer strategies, and catastrophe modeling.
    • Observe Emergency Operations Center structures, the Incident Command System, and National Incident Management System practices.
    • Assist with resource typing and mutual aid requests.
    • Create situational awareness products, including situation reports and leadership briefings.
    • Gain exposure to FEMA Public Assistance program delivery, damage assessment, documentation, cost recovery, and grant compliance.

    What you'll need#

    • At least 30 credit hours completed by the start date in emergency management, homeland security, public administration, political science, public health, or a related field.
    • U.S. Citizenship is required due to Federal contracts.
    • Basic familiarity with the disaster lifecycle and core emergency management concepts.
    • Coursework or self-study in FEMA's Incident Command System or National Incident Management System.
    • Comfort using Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
    • Strong research and writing skills, with the ability to translate technical material for various audiences.
    • A genuine interest in emergency management, disaster recovery, or public sector consulting.
    • Exposure to GIS or other data analysis tools is helpful.

    Location & details#

    • This internship runs for 10 weeks, from early June to early August 2027.
    • The role is full-time and paid.
    • Work can be performed in a hybrid capacity from Tallahassee, Florida, or Baton Rouge, Louisiana, or remotely from any U.S. location.
    • We are unable to provide relocation or housing assistance.
