About the role#
IBM is looking for interns to help develop the firmware and low-level system software that powers IBM Power Systems. You will work at the intersection of hardware and software to design and implement features for next-generation enterprise servers. This role involves collaborating with experienced engineers across various disciplines to solve technical challenges and support mission-critical workloads.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement firmware and low-level system software.
- Work on platform initialization and hardware enablement.
- Develop systems management and virtualization technologies.
- Create performance and reliability features for next-generation IBM Power servers.
- Collaborate with engineers across hardware and software disciplines to solve complex technical challenges.
What you'll need#
- Programming experience in C or C++ from coursework, projects, internships, or research.
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
- Coursework or project experience in Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, Embedded Systems, or Systems Programming.
- Knowledge of hardware and software interactions.
- Familiarity with technologies such as PCIe, I2C, system buses, or processor architecture.
- Experience with Linux development, Git, Python, debugging, testing, or open-source software projects.
- Familiarity with virtualization, QEMU, AI infrastructure, or machine learning technologies.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Interest in firmware development, embedded systems, low-level programming, operating systems, or hypervisors.
