Student Nurse Extern - Alternative Level of Care (Church Reactivation Care Centre)

About the role#

The Student Nurse Extern provides direct personal support to patients within the Alternative Level of Care (ALC) facility at the Church Reactivation Care Centre. This is a temporary, part-time role involving rotating shifts across days, evenings, nights, and weekends. The extern works under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses to provide basic care and support.

What you'll do#

• Provide direct personal support for daily living activities, including bathing, toileting, and feeding for up to 10 patients.
• Assist with delivering meals, supporting visitor policies, and managing patient laundry services.
• Support therapeutic programming on inpatient units under the guidance of a recreation therapist.
• Document activities of daily living, such as intake and output, and communicate relevant patient information to the healthcare team.
• Report any clinical concerns immediately to the direct supervisor.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
• Valid CPR certification.
• Demonstrated understanding of technology use.
• Excellent attendance and a discipline-free record.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a team.
• Understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles is considered an asset.
• Ability to complete mandatory training modules, including privacy, WHMIS, fire safety, and hand hygiene.
