Student Nurse Extern, 11 East & West Inpatient Surgery

About the role#

The Student Nurse Extern is an unregulated healthcare worker providing direct personal support to patients within the 11 East & West Inpatient Surgical Program. This role operates under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses to assist with daily patient care needs.

What you'll do#

• Provide basic care, including bathing, toileting, and feeding, for up to 6 patients.
• Document activities of daily living (ADLs), such as intake and output.
• Communicate relevant patient information to the inter-professional healthcare team.
• Immediately report any clinical concerns to your direct supervisor.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
• Current CPR certification.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on customer service.
• Demonstrated ability to use technology effectively.
• Ability to work well in a team environment and provide assistive care under supervision.
• Compliance with mandatory training, including privacy, confidentiality, and safety modules.

• Location: Humber River Health, Wilson Site, Toronto, Ontario.
• Employment Status: Temporary Part-Time.
• Hours: 12-hour rotating shifts covering weekdays, evenings, nights, and weekends.
• Term: Rolling.
