About the role#
The Japan Chair at Hudson Institute offers an internship for individuals interested in Indo-Pacific economic, security, and defense issues, with a focus on US-Japan relations. Interns work directly with scholars and experts to support research projects and gain exposure to public policy discussions. This is an on-site, unpaid position based in Washington, DC. The program runs from August 24 to December 4, 2026.
What you'll do#
- Collect and analyze data for reports, articles, and briefing memos.
- Prepare literature reviews based on research findings.
- Support experts with ongoing projects, presentations, and writing tasks.
- Maintain department contact databases.
- Provide administrative assistance and support for public events.
- Monitor and report on current events relevant to the team.
What you'll need#
- Current student or recent graduate in political science, international relations, economics, security studies, Japanese studies, or a related field.
- Interest in Indo-Pacific economic, security, and defense issues, and US-Japan relations.
- Strong research, writing, editing, and analysis skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Japanese language skills are a plus.

- Location: Washington, DC (On-site only).
- Commitment: Minimum of 20 hours per week.
- Term: Fall 2026 (August 24 to December 4).
