The Japan Chair at Hudson Institute offers an opportunity to gain experience in Indo-Pacific economic and security issues, with a specific focus on US-Japan relations. Interns provide research and administrative support to the chair, engaging in discussions on critical policy issues with experts. Those working on-site attend Hudson Institute public events and participate in intern-specific programming featuring scholars and experts.
What you'll do#
- Gather and analyze data for reports, articles, and briefing memos.
- Write literature reviews and assist with op-eds and research projects.
- Keep the team updated on current events.
- Create and maintain databases of department contacts.
- Provide administrative support and assist with event coordination.
What you'll need#
- Current students or recent graduates in political science, international relations, economics, security studies, Japanese studies, or related fields.
- Demonstrated interest in Indo-Pacific economic, security, and defense issues and US-Japan relations.
- Strong research, writing, editing, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Japanese language skills are considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, DC (On-site only).
- Term: Fall 2026 (August 24 to December 4).
- Commitment: Minimum of 20 hours per week.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid, volunteer research position.
