About the role#
This is an unpaid internship through the Hire Vets Now (HVN) SkillBridge Program, designed for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel. Interns gain real-world workforce experience by training on meaningful projects while collaborating with a mentor and senior leadership. The program focuses on placing participants in roles that align with their existing military training, education, and skills to facilitate a transition into full-time employment.
What you'll do#
- Install, groom, and test major mechanical components and systems on ships.
- Perform work on commercial or naval vessels during various stages of construction, overhaul, or repair.
- Handle diverse mechanical systems, including steam turbines, reduction gears, propellers, reactor components, catapults, and weapons systems.
- Operate a wide range of tools and machinery, from basic hand tools to complex equipment like lathes, mills, precision grinders, and optical instruments.
What you'll need#
- Must be active-duty military personnel within the final 180 days of active-duty service.
- Education and experience requirements are dependent on the specific Program of Instruction.
- Ability to operate a wide variety of tools and machinery.
- Practical experience with the installation and maintenance of mechanical components.
- Strong communication skills.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
