DECK ELECTRICIAN SKILLBRIDGE INTERN

About the role#

This is an unpaid internship offered through the Hire Vets Now (HVN) SkillBridge Program. The program is designed to provide transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel with real-world workforce experience during their final 180 days of service. Interns work on meaningful projects alongside mentors and senior leadership to facilitate a transition into full-time roles at Newport News Shipbuilding.

What you'll do#

• Perform the installation, repair, overhaul, and operational testing of electrical systems aboard ships, including power distribution, lighting, communications, and navigation.
• Read and interpret complex electrical and electronic schematics.
• Switch between diverse tasks such as installing wire racks, rebuilding equipment, installing electronic controls, performing preventative maintenance, and welding studs for equipment mounting.

What you'll need#

• Must be active-duty military personnel within the final 180 days of service.
• Transitioning military candidates may begin applying within their final 12 months of service.
• Education and experience requirements are dependent on the specific Program of Instruction.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
