About the role#

This is an unpaid internship through the Hire Vets Now (HVN) SkillBridge Program, designed for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. This program provides real-world experience during the final 180 days of active-duty service, focusing on roles that align with your current or previous military job experience, education, and training. The objective is to facilitate a transition into a full-time, permanent position at Newport News Shipbuilding.

What you'll do#

• Supervise, assign, coordinate, and evaluate semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel based on their experience and job knowledge.
• Train employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
• Recommend training to enhance employee productivity and assist in the development of training procedures.
• Translate broad strategies into practical action plans and ensure staff are trained to execute them.
• Maintain compliance with all technical aspects of the job, including adherence to drawings and procedures.
• Oversee manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that impact company financial performance.
• Monitor job and budget performance for qualified trades staff.

What you'll need#

• Must be active-duty military within the final 180 days of service to participate in the internship.
• Transitioning military candidates may begin the application process within the final 12 months of military service.
• Education and experience requirements are dependent on the specific Program of Instruction.
• US Citizenship is required.
