CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISOR SKILLBRIDGE INTERN

About the role#

This is an unpaid SkillBridge internship designed for transitioning active-duty military personnel. Participants work on meaningful projects alongside mentors and senior leadership to gain professional experience during their final 180 days of service. This program aims to align military knowledge, skills, and abilities with roles that could lead to full-time employment at Newport News Shipbuilding.

What you'll do#

• Coordinate and supervise construction processes, including defining project scope, goals, and deliverables that support build strategy and key event schedules.
• Manage project expectations with stakeholders to ensure quality and safety standards are met and work remains within contract specifications.
• Identify and resolve issues related to design, materials, scheduling, or manpower that could impact critical path work.
• Liaise with trade management to control cost performance, including determining overtime requirements and managing cost drivers.
• Evaluate growth work and contract-funded point changes to ensure they are authorized, integrated, and achievable.
• Perform various inspections, including structural, tank/void, and system turnover inspections, and document discrepancies for correction.
• Assess safety risks and develop mitigation plans.

What you'll need#

• Must be active-duty military within the final 180 days of service to participate; applications may be submitted within the final 12 months of service.
• Education and experience requirements are dependent on the specific Program of Instruction.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
