About the role#
HII Technical Solutions is hiring a Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op to work with our Uncrewed Systems programs. You will support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in a regulated defense contracting environment. This role involves working alongside engineers and technicians to improve production efficiency, quality, and workflow.
What you'll do#
- Assist with Lean Manufacturing activities including 5S, Standard Work, Visual Management, and waste reduction.
- Support Kaizen events and projects focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Collect and analyze manufacturing data to track KPIs like cycle time, yield, scrap, and rework.
- Document current and future state process maps and value stream maps.
- Develop and update work instructions, process flows, and assembly documentation.
- Support manufacturing engineers with process improvements, tooling updates, and fixture design.
- Participate in New Product Introduction activities, including prototype builds and pilot production.
- Provide shop-floor support by observing processes and identifying improvement opportunities.
- Assist with troubleshooting and provide general technical support to the engineering team.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering.
- Completion of 40% to 60% of required degree credits.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance.
- Interest in defense systems, robotics, autonomy, or underwater technologies.
- Familiarity with CAD, Excel, or basic data analysis tools is preferred.
- Coursework or project experience in Lean, Six Sigma, or Operations Management is a plus.
- Prior co-op, internship, or shop-floor experience in a manufacturing environment is helpful.
