About the role#
This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program, specifically designed for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel within their final 180 days of service. You will train as an Engineering Technician 3 within the HII-Mission Technologies division, reporting to a designated supervisor. The role focuses on providing technical support to engineers and learning the maintenance duties required for Newport News Direct Support customers, specifically within the E84 CVN 74/75 Work Control and Test Department at the Newport News Shipyard.
What you'll do#
- Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, including material test results and engineering design changes.
- Produce engineering documentation, reports, and drawings such as flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics.
- Perform mathematical calculations and preliminary data analyses for areas such as trajectory adequacy and model dimensional consistency.
- Solve engineering problems via Work Authorization Forms and Work Permits.
- Coordinate with tradesmen to rectify reactor plant deficiencies.
- Test and troubleshoot installed equipment.
- Utilize the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual and Tag-out User’s Manual to ensure safety and quality standards.
- Conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluations.
What you'll need#
- Must be active-duty military personnel within the final 180 days of active-duty service.
- Five years of experience in Navy electrical or mechanical testing and maintenance.
- An active Secret clearance.
- Ability to work on-site during standard business hours.
