CVN Engineering Technician (SkillBridge Intern) - 27764

About the role#

This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program, specifically designed for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel. The program provides an opportunity to gain real-world experience during the final 180 days of active-duty service. Interns will train as an Engineering Technician 3 within the HII-Mission Technologies division, working closely with mentors and senior leadership to support test engineering and trades operations at the Newport News Shipyard.

What you'll do#

• Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, including material test results and engineering design changes.
• Produce engineering documentation, reports, and drawings such as flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics.
• Perform detailed mathematical calculations and preliminary data analyses.
• Coordinate with tradesmen to rectify reactor plant deficiencies.
• Assist with testing and troubleshooting installed equipment.
• Utilize the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual and Tag-out User’s Manual to ensure safety and quality standards.
• Act as a liaison between engineering departments, trades, naval personnel, and government agencies.

What you'll need#

• Active-duty military status within the final 180 days of service.
• Five years of experience in Navy electrical or mechanical testing and maintenance.
• An active Secret Clearance.
