About the role#
The Safety & Quality Co-Op is a summer program designed to introduce college students to both office and field operations within the commercial construction industry. You will coordinate safety and health matters across various projects to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role offers exposure to professional interactions with project managers, field workers, and subcontractors, providing a firsthand look at how construction projects move from concept to reality.
What you'll do#
- Conduct jobsite safety audits to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
- Perform regular inspections to identify and document incidents, safety violations, or unsafe conditions.
- Collaborate with the Superintendent to review and analyze weekly safety audit reports.
- Attend and contribute to safety meetings, walkthroughs, training sessions, and weekly toolbox talks.
- Participate in pre-work meetings with subcontractors before high-risk activities begin.
- Update and implement policies regarding health, accident prevention, first aid, and fire protection.
- Use software tools like HammerTech and Microsoft Office to manage documentation and reporting.
- Promote safe work practices and conditions across all project sites.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited degree program for Safety Management, Occupational Safety & Health, or a related field.
- A genuine desire to build a career in construction management and learn the safety industry.
- Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Cleveland, Ohio.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Status: Full-time, paid position.
- Note: This position is classified as safety-sensitive. It requires physical activity including climbing ladders, working on scaffolding, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Candidates must be able to work in various environmental conditions and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
