About the role#
The Construction Co-Op program at Higley Construction introduces college students to both office and field operations within the commercial construction industry. You will work alongside project managers, superintendents, and consulting professionals to understand how a project moves from an idea to a completed structure. This role is based in Muskegon, Michigan, for the Summer 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Interpret project design drawings and specifications.
- Document site progress through photographs.
- Manage the submittal process and maintain submittal logs.
- Assist with Request for Information (RFI) logs.
- Draft weekly meeting minutes for subcontractor and OAC meetings.
- Write daily reports summarizing project activities.
- Attend safety meetings, walkthroughs, and weekly toolbox talks.
- Monitor safety audits to ensure site compliance.
- Participate in quality meetings and walkthroughs.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and wear required protective equipment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited degree program for civil engineering, construction management, or a related architectural or engineering field.
- A genuine interest in learning about construction management.
- Strong business writing and public presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in or a willingness to learn construction software.
- Mathematical, problem-solving, and relationship management skills.
- Proactive and innovative thinking.
