About the role#
The Mechanical Engineering Intern supports the design, development, and testing of mechanical components and systems for medical technology programs. You will work alongside senior engineers and technicians to prototype concepts, troubleshoot issues, and improve product performance. This role provides hands-on experience with the full product development lifecycle.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the design and modification of mechanical components, robotics, fluidics, and subassemblies.
- Perform engineering analyses and experiments using FEA, tolerance stack-up, and mathematical techniques.
- Create 3D CAD part files, assemblies, and associated drawings.
- Build and evaluate engineering prototypes.
- Prepare technical documentation, including reports, specifications, and procedures.
- Conduct lab and field testing for new and existing applications.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent major, with at least one year of the program completed.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, with a preference for SolidWorks.
- Practical experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack analysis.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, welding, casting, thermo forming, and injection molding.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
- High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
