About the role#
This co-op position involves working with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, process, design, mechanical, and electrical engineers. You will contribute to projects such as root cause investigations, increasing manufacturing capacity, qualifying new component suppliers, and analyzing manufacturing processes. You will gain exposure to manufacturing practices like plastic injection molding, metal stamping, and automated assembly. Each co-op works with a manager to define learning outcomes.
What you'll do#
- Work hands-on with lab equipment, including Instron, pressure transducers, OGP, and high-speed cameras, to support root cause analysis.
- Design test procedures and 3D-printed fixtures, perform custom tests, and analyze data for tool qualifications and design enhancements.
- Lead at least one root cause or process improvement initiative.
- Improve internal workflows and data analysis by automating tasks using software like VBA.
- Apply Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing concepts.
- Assist or lead engineering change orders to improve product design.
- Travel to local suppliers as needed, up to 5% of the time.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program for mechanical, industrial, or biomedical engineering.
- A GPA of 3.0 or better.
- Mechanical aptitude and a hands-on work style.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and CAD software.
- Strong attention to detail and good documentation skills.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
