    About the role#

    As a Test and Operations Engineering Intern, you will support the development, integration, and testing of advanced aircraft systems. You will work in a hands-on environment alongside engineers, technicians, and pilots to assist with hardware integration, system checkout, and test readiness. This role focuses on engineering operations, test execution, and rapid hardware development. You will help troubleshoot issues, improve procedures, and support the tools that make vehicle testing safer and more repeatable.

    What you'll do#

    • Work with experienced engineers to plan, execute, and analyze flight tests.
    • Develop test plans, procedures, checklists, and flight test cards.
    • Monitor telemetry during testing and assist with real-time troubleshooting and decision-making.
    • Review test data to identify issues and help develop engineering conclusions.
    • Design, build, and troubleshoot test hardware, tooling, GSE, wiring, and instrumentation.
    • Support integration across mechanical, electrical, fluid, software, and vehicle systems.
    • Develop scripts and automation tools to improve test efficiency.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prepare systems for testing.
    • Travel as needed to support vehicle integration and test operations.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a STEM program at an accredited college or university (third or fourth year undergraduate, or Master's or Ph.D. student).
    • Hands-on experience designing, building, and testing vehicles through internships, projects, or studies.
    • Proficiency with engineering tools such as CAD, C++, or Python.
    • Strong understanding of engineering first principles and fundamentals.
    • Ability to work within cross-functional teams.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • A GPA of 3.0 or above.
    • Enthusiasm for aviation and the Hermeus mission.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Los Angeles, California.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Terms: Winter 2027 (approximately 16 weeks) or Summer 2027 (approximately 12 weeks).
    • Compensation: Paid position with an hourly rate of $25 to $33 depending on degree level.
    • Benefits: 5 days of sick leave, unpaid time off, weekly paid office lunches, and stocked breakrooms.
    • Eligibility: This role requires status as a U.S. person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.62 for export control compliance.
