About the role#
As a Modeling & Simulation Software Engineering Intern, you will join our software team to build performant code for 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DOF) Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) simulations. You will work directly with our Flight Software, HMI, and Flight Sciences teams to ensure simulation outputs align with project requirements. Your work involves creating physics-informed models that represent hardware behavior and validating these models against real-world flight data.
What you'll do#
- Write performant simulation code for 6DOF SITL systems using Julia.
- Build user-driven features and improve the scalability of our Monte Carlo simulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet stakeholder needs.
- Design and implement physics-informed models of system dynamics.
- Validate simulation accuracy by comparing model outputs to flight data.
- Optimize simulation performance for real-time execution across test environments.
- Participate in code reviews and testing cycles.
- Document modeling assumptions, validation results, and integration workflows.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program for Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Julia or experience with scientific computing languages like Python, MATLAB, or C++.
- Knowledge of 6DOF dynamics and simulation principles.
- Familiarity with modeling physical systems, including hardware-in-the-loop or physics-informed techniques.
- Experience with data validation and comparing simulation outputs to real-world data.
- A GPA of 3.0 or above.
- A solid grasp of engineering first principles.

- Terms: Winter 2027 (January to April) and Summer 2027 (May to August).
- Compensation: Paid position.
