About the role#
As a Build Reliability Engineering Intern, you will support the development, improvement, and standardization of manufacturing processes for our aircraft. You will work alongside engineers and technicians to identify manufacturing challenges, investigate root causes, and implement improvements across structural fabrication and assembly. This role focuses on ensuring the quality and repeatability of our hardware.
What you'll do#
- Support the development and improvement of manufacturing processes for aircraft structures and hardware.
- Work hands-on with sheet metal, welded assemblies, tooling, and other manufacturing equipment on the factory floor.
- Investigate manufacturing defects, nonconformances, and process inefficiencies to find root causes.
- Develop and implement corrective actions to improve quality and manufacturing efficiency.
- Help establish standardized processes and best practices for welding, fabrication, repair, and assembly.
- Create and improve work instructions, process documentation, and manufacturing standards.
- Partner with engineers and technicians to capture lessons learned and incorporate them into future builds.
- Support continuous improvement projects across structural manufacturing and aircraft assembly.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or related degree program (third or fourth-year undergraduate, Master's, or Ph.D.).
- Hands-on experience building, fabricating, assembling, or testing hardware through internships, coursework, clubs, competition teams, or personal projects.
- Comfort working directly on the factory floor and learning manufacturing processes hands-on.
- A strong interest in manufacturing, welding, materials, structures, or process improvement.
- Ability to approach problems using engineering first principles and root-cause analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document technical processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams.
- A GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Enthusiasm for aviation and the Hermeus mission.
Location & details#
- Location: Atlanta, Georgia.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Terms: Winter 2027 (approx. 16 weeks) or Summer 2027 (approx. 12 weeks).
- Employment: Full-time paid internship.
