About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in a food manufacturing environment. You will work across both Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and Engineering teams to identify hazards and implement solutions. The role focuses on reducing workplace risk through safety policies and engineered improvements.
What you'll do#
- Follow occupational and food safety regulations, including current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs).
- Assist in the development and review of EHS policies, procedures, and programs.
- Identify safety hazards through regular inspections and audits.
- Participate in incident investigations and track corrective actions.
- Support training initiatives by creating toolbox talks and safety materials.
- Help engineers integrate safety components into capital projects, equipment upgrades, and maintenance programs.
- Conduct hazard assessments, including JHAs, risk assessments, ergonomics evaluations, and machine guarding reviews.
- Work independently on assigned projects while collaborating across departments like production, quality, and maintenance.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Interest in safety compliance, engineering systems, and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and a task-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks is a plus.
Location & details#
- This role is based on-site in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- This is a full-time, paid internship with a rolling term.
- You must be able to perform physical tasks, including walking, climbing, and lifting up to 40 pounds. The role involves working in various environmental conditions, at heights, and potentially operating scissor lifts.
