News Intern

About the role#

This is a paid internship opportunity at WJCL 22, a Hearst Television station serving the Savannah and Hilton Head market. Interns gain practical experience in broadcast and digital news operations, learning how a television station functions and the roles of various departments in delivering news and community programming.

What you'll do#

• Help write and produce newscasts and news stories.
• Contribute to brainstorming sessions with the News and Creative Services teams.
• Assist with the execution of live newscasts.
• Support special events and event planning initiatives.
• Explore technical areas of the station and newsroom operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a field such as Journalism, Communications, or Marketing.
• Strong writing, spelling, grammar, and copy-editing skills.
• Ability to work effectively under deadlines.
• Versatility to handle a wide range of topics, subjects, and tasks.
• Genuine interest in journalism, marketing, videography, writing, and editing.
• Experience with Adobe applications, camera equipment, or newsroom systems is considered a plus.
