As a Teen Health Education Intern, you will serve as a near-peer mentor to middle and high school students in the Oklahoma City area. You will act as a catalyst for sustainable change by implementing the Teens Make Health Happen program, empowering students to make healthier choices for themselves and their families. This role involves significant community engagement and hands-on experience in public health and the education system.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with teen wellness leaders and site partners to deliver programming across 1-4 school sites.
- Plan and implement the Teens Make Health Happen program, including leading wellness activities like step challenges and community projects.
- Conduct needs assessments to identify health challenges and track progress throughout the academic year.
- Host monthly Café O Yea demonstrations at assigned sites.
- Prioritize health and wellness by connecting students and staff with relevant local resources.
- Support outreach efforts and contribute content to social media platforms to highlight program impact.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in public health, psychology, nutrition, biology, marketing, public policy, education, or social work.
- Good academic standing with your university.
- A commitment of at least 8 hours per week for the duration of the academic year, including 3-4 hours per week on-site at schools.
- A strong desire for personal and professional growth as a community leader.
- Comfort learning and presenting health-related topics to a teen audience.
- Ability to travel up to 45 miles within the Oklahoma City area and lift up to 15 pounds.

- Location: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Compensation: Paid via monthly stipend; college credit is available depending on university requirements.
- Term: Rolling, covering the academic year.
