About the role#
Hatch is seeking a Hydrometallurgy Process Intern to join the Metals group. You will work from our Salt Lake City office and support global projects. This role involves working with a diverse team to develop solutions for mining and metals facilities. We value in-person collaboration and operate in an office-based environment, though we offer flexibility when needed.
What you'll do#
- Assist in studies for commodities like rare earths, critical minerals, and battery metals.
- Prepare design calculations and build mass balance models using simulation software.
- Evaluate process alternatives, technology selection, and materials of construction.
- Provide process design requirements to designers and review plant layout developments.
- Prepare process equipment data sheets and ensure specifications meet design intent.
- Write process descriptions and control philosophies.
- Work with project teams to prepare capital and operating cost estimates.
- Provide technical input to designers and technicians.
- Coordinate with engineers, clients, and contractor representatives.
- Support Senior Engineers and Designers on detailed project designs and drawings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s program for chemical engineering, metallurgical engineering, extractive metallurgy, or a related field.
- A minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- A solid grasp of engineering and business fundamentals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative mindset.
- Previous co-op or summer work experience in metallurgical or chemical process plants is an asset.
- Experience with process modelling or developing engineering deliverables is an asset.
