About the role#
As an Environment, People, and Place Intern, you will report to the Business Practices group. You will support our global offices while working from our Brooklyn, NY location. This role focuses on shaping projects that are sustainable, resilient, and people-focused by bringing environmental intelligence and community-centered design to every stage of development.
What you'll do#
- Support global offices through quantitative and qualitative analyses, including economic and fiscal impact studies, benefit-cost analysis, and cost of inaction regarding climate change.
- Conduct feasibility analyses and market studies for urban development and redevelopment.
- Perform case-study research on trends in urbanization, transportation, energy, and economic development.
- Execute socio-economic analyses for infrastructure, real estate, and economic policy development.
- Carry out urban design, zoning, and land use planning studies.
- Perform environmental engineering analyses covering air, noise, soil, water, and waste management.
- Assist in project development and design to mitigate environmental impacts, including determining legislation, specifying design criteria, collecting baseline data, and modeling potential effects.
- Prepare technical reports, including calculations and modeling for air quality, noise, soil, groundwater, and surface water.
- Liaise with and support global peers on multidisciplinary teams.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Economics, Urban Planning, Architecture, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of urban planning, real estate, economics, land use, or environmental policy and science.
- Experience with quantitative modeling, such as financial, economic, or climate change analysis.
- Ability to research and compile information from multiple sources to prepare project reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint, and basic familiarity with InDesign.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work toward solutions despite limited data and adapt to changing project needs.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work within integrated, multidisciplinary teams.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship located in Brooklyn, NY.
- Work is on-site, though some flexibility exists. We encourage in-office collaboration.
- The term is rolling.
