About the role#
The Psychiatric Office Assistant Internship is a hands-on, unpaid certification program designed for individuals looking to build a career in healthcare. This program provides foundational training in medical office operations within a behavioral and mental health setting. Participants receive mentorship, structured training, and a Certificate of Completion upon finishing 600 hours of service.
What you'll do#
Under supervision, you will gain practical experience in the following areas:
- Manage front desk operations, including patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Handle professional phone etiquette and appointment scheduling.
- Utilize MEDENT for Electronic Health Record (EHR) tasks.
- Manage patient flow and the waiting area environment.
- Perform administrative duties such as faxing, copying, and filing.
- Learn the basics of psychiatric services, medical terminology, and insurance billing.
- Maintain professionalism, discretion, and strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
What you'll need#
- Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
- Ability to commit to a consistent schedule (minimum 20 hours per week).
- Strong motivation to gain healthcare experience for professional development.
- Ability to pass a basic screening, including a background check and drug testing.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
