About the role#
The Physician Assistant Intern joins the clinical team at the Hampton University Proton Cancer Institute. This role offers the opportunity to gain experience in a specialized proton therapy center. Interns work alongside a multidisciplinary team to support patient care and clinical operations. This is a full-time, paid position with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Observe physician consultations with new cancer patients when patient consent is provided.
- Obtain patient medical histories and record vital signs.
- Assist with referral appointments for consultations and support services such as social work and dietetics.
- Greet patients, schedule appointments, and manage patient medical records.
- Explain treatment procedures and prepare patients for examinations.
- Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical staff to maintain continuity of care and improve patient safety.
- Build relationships with patients to provide support during their proton radiation therapy treatments.
- Complete a final presentation summarizing your learning, projects, and skill development at the end of the term.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a program of study or graduation within the last 12 months.
- Majors in Nursing, Public Health, or Biomedical Sciences.
- Proof of good academic standing.
- Submission of the Hampton Proton Internship Application and Questionnaire.
