About the role#
The Scale Up, Tech Transfer, and Pilot Plant team manages the transition of manufacturing processes from development to full-scale production. The pilot plant acts as a bridge where new products, processes, and equipment are tested before they reach consumers. As a Pilot Plant Engineering Co-op, you will gain hands-on experience by supporting these operations and engineering projects. You will work directly with engineers, operators, and cross-functional partners to see how products move into manufacturing.
What you'll do#
- Support equipment commissioning, qualification, validation, and troubleshooting activities.
- Assist with technical documentation, including standard operating procedures, risk assessments, qualification protocols, and project reports.
- Participate in pilot plant manufacturing activities, data collection, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with product development teams, quality partners, and external vendors to support project objectives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree program in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to learn in a hands-on environment.
- Interest in manufacturing, engineering operations, equipment, or process development.
- Previous exposure to manufacturing, laboratory, or engineering environments through coursework, projects, or internships is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Richmond, Virginia.
- Term: Winter 2027 (6-month duration, January start).
- Modality: Full-time, on-site (5 days per week).
- Compensation: Paid hourly based on academic standing ($20.00 to $30.00 per hour).
- Requirements: Must be authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not available.
