About the role#
The Exploring Agriculture Agronomy Operations Intern position at West Central FS provides hands-on experience in the agriculture industry. You will work under the direction of location management during the summer of 2027 to learn the foundation of the GROWMARK system and prepare for a future career in the field. This is a full-time, paid internship.
What you'll do#
- Train and assist with general agronomy functions.
- Gain practical experience in field operations, including facility and equipment maintenance.
- Visit FS locations and customers to build professional relationships.
- Operate field research and crop monitoring technology for scouting.
- Apply crop nutrition and crop protection products.
- Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory control tasks.
- Complete an operational project designed to improve business efficiencies.
- Submit weekly activity reports and participate in all program activities.
- Attend a required orientation event in Bloomington, IL on May 17-18, 2027.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and company policies, including OSHA and DOT regulations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree or certification program at a community college, technical college, or university.
- Good academic standing, with preference given to students entering their first or second year.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and customer-service skills.
- A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
- Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight trips.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
- Comfort working in various weather conditions and at elevated heights.
- Willingness to participate in all required training.
