About the role#
Great Southern Wood Preserving is hiring a Purchasing Intern for the Summer 2027 program. You will gain experience in the lumber industry through daily operations and projects. This is a full-time, on-site, paid internship located in Abbeville, Alabama.
What you'll do#
- Learn item code logic and product nomenclature to navigate computer systems.
- Study the Random Lengths Mid-Week and Weekly Market Report.
- Understand zone pricing and how to use zone spreads.
- Manage orders, shipping notices, amendments, and other documentation.
- Keep records accurate and up to date.
- Monitor vendor performance to ensure orders meet contract terms.
- Answer questions from other departments about invoicing, shipping, receiving, and quotes.
- Find ways to reduce redundancies and improve efficiency in daily tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program for Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum status of a Sophomore.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
