Job Description: Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc., makers of YellaWood brand pressure-treated pine, is seeking a Purchasing Intern for the 2027 Summer Internship Program. This program is an opportunity to experience the lumber industry and workforce like never before. From networking opportunities and real-world projects to community service events, Great Southern provides the incredible opportunity to gain valuable real-world experience. Responsibilities may include:
Learn Great Southern Wood Preserving item code logic and product nomenclature and use these skills to navigate various computer system applications. Familiarize yourself with the Random Lengths Mid-Week and Weekly Market Report and ascertain the importance of zone pricing, its meaning, and using zone spreads as an advantage. Maintain timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to ensure accurate retention of records. Manage vendor performance of former purchases to ensure orders are ready on time in accordance with negotiated or contract terms. Respond to inquiries from other departments relating to time-sensitive issues relating to rectifying incorrect invoicing, order loading/shipping, receiving difficulties, and quotes/market information. Identify areas of wasted time and redundancies that could be avoided or improved and offer solutions where applicable.
Qualifications:
Must be at least a Sophomore and actively seeking a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater. Must have experience with PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook.
