About the role#
Great Plains Mfg is hiring a Lean Engineer Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on-site in Salina, KS, to complete a project with a mentor and supportive peers. This role focuses on Lean Engineering within the manufacturing of agricultural and construction equipment. You will apply your college coursework to real-world tasks and gain practical experience in an engineering environment.
What you'll do#
- Complete a project centered on Lean Engineering principles.
- Work alongside engineers and production floor team members.
- Apply academic knowledge to manufacturing processes for agricultural and construction machinery.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program for Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Ag Systems, or a relevant Engineering major.
- Completion of at least 30 credit hours before the internship starts.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Basic knowledge of CAD software.
- Strong project management, organization, and planning skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
- A positive approach to problem-solving and critical thinking.
- A team player mindset and interpersonal skills.
- A willingness to learn.
Location & details#
- Location: Salina, KS.
- Term: Summer 2027 (Mid-May to Early-August).
- Modality: Full-time (40 hours per week) on-site.
- Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Compensation: $20 per hour.
- Requirements: You must hold a valid driver license, have reliable transportation, and be willing to live within commuting distance of Salina or Abilene, KS. Housing is provided if you currently reside outside the Salina area. You must also pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening, and provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States.
