About the role#
This is a summer 2027 internship assignment with Intermountain Slurry Seal, a subsidiary of Granite Construction. You will work on-site to assist a project team with management, field construction activities, and project documentation. This role offers an opportunity to gain experience in the heavy-civil construction industry.
What you'll do#
- Communicate with foremen and superintendents to learn about field operations and provide support.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, inspectors, and the local community.
- Assist the project engineer with approving timecards in Heavy Job and ensure all equipment and employee time is accounted for accurately.
- Provide support with verifying quantities in FIS (Field Information Systems) and log quantities for cost and revenue tracking.
- Generate and distribute daily cost reports for trucking, labor, and equipment to the project manager, foreman, and superintendent.
- Document daily activities for Intermountain Slurry Seal and subcontractors.
- Place material orders, survey requests, and locates.
- Calculate yields of materials such as concrete, aggregate base, and asphalt.
- Support the jobsite daily to verify claimed quantities and stay current on overall job progress.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Construction, Engineering, or related undergraduate program at an accredited 4-year university.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a high production environment and respond effectively under pressure and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Availability and willingness to travel frequently.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, sitting, and climbing stairs or ladders in a construction environment.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
