    About the role#

    This internship is a three to four month assignment where you will support a project team with management, field construction activities, and documentation. You will gain hands-on experience in the heavy-civil construction industry while working on-site. This is a full-time, paid position.

    What you'll do#

    • Communicate with foremen and superintendents to learn about field operations.
    • Build and maintain relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, inspectors, and the local community.
    • Assist with environmental, health, and safety requirements.
    • Help the project engineer approve time cards in HeavyJob and ensure all equipment and employees are accounted for.
    • Verify quantities in Field Information Systems and log them for cost and revenue tracking.
    • Generate and distribute daily cost reports for the project manager, foreman, and superintendent.
    • Complete daily reports documenting activities for Granite Construction and subcontractors.
    • Place material orders, manage survey requests, and handle locates.
    • Maintain a daily diary and to-do list.
    • Calculate material yields for items such as concrete, aggregate base, and asphalt.
    • Tour the jobsite daily with the project manager or engineer to track progress and verify quantities.

    What you'll need#

    • High school diploma.
    • Minimum of 2 years of education from an accredited institution.
    • Current focus in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work in a team environment.
    • Self-motivated and capable of problem solving.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Previous construction experience is a plus.
