About the role#
The Microbiology intern performs analytical, microbiological, and sensory testing to ensure products, raw materials, and facilities meet corporate and regulatory safety standards. You will support various FSQA programs and help maintain high levels of product quality and plant sanitation.
What you'll do#
- Analyze samples from manufacturing, R&D, Purchasing, and Consumer Services.
- Document findings in corporate analytical records.
- Keep the laboratory and equipment clean, maintained, and functioning correctly.
- Follow Good Laboratory Procedures at all times.
- Help develop and evaluate new testing methods.
- Inspect products from co-manufacturing facilities and manage the associated reporting.
What you'll need#
- An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and standards.
- Ability to handle, test, and taste seafood products safely.
- Aptitude for lab work and a focus on detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter.
- Solid computer skills.
- Seafood HACCP certification is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Gloucester, Massachusetts.
- This is an on-site, full-time, paid internship.
- Compensation is $20 to $25 per hour.
- Candidates must have permanent U.S. work authorization.
