About the role#
GlobalFoundries is seeking a Reliability Engineering Intern to support the development and qualification of Silicon Photonics technologies. You will work alongside experienced engineers to evaluate CMOS and photonic components. This role involves reliability testing, data analysis, and failure-mechanism studies to ensure the quality of devices like waveguides, modulators, photodetectors, and lasers.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design and evaluation of reliability test structures.
- Execute reliability stress tests, laboratory measurements, and characterization activities.
- Collect, organize, validate, and analyze reliability data while summarizing trends for engineering teams.
- Participate in the development of reliability models, statistical analyses, and lifetime projections.
- Perform literature reviews on degradation mechanisms and industry reliability standards.
- Investigate device reliability concerns and failure mechanisms.
- Support hardware planning, test readiness, and laboratory activities to meet project schedules.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Process Integration, Design, and Test.
- Document experimental methods and results in technical reports and presentations.
- Maintain a safe work environment and support all health and safety programs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as at least a sophomore in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program in Photonics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Applied Physics, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum overall 3.0 GPA.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work at least 40 hours per week.
- A basic understanding of semiconductor device physics and an interest in photonics.
- Ability to analyze technical data, solve engineering problems, and work in a collaborative environment.
- Preferred: Prior internship or co-op experience, leadership experience, and project management skills.
- Preferred: Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, JMP, Minitab, or Excel for data analysis.
- Preferred: Coursework or research in Silicon Photonics, optoelectronics, or reliability engineering.
- Preferred: Interest in leveraging AI tools to support workflows.
