About the role#
As a Motorsports Aerodynamics Intern, you will join the GM Motorsports engineering organization. You will work alongside technical leaders on projects that connect high-performance racing with engineering innovation. This role focuses on aerodynamic development through computational fluid dynamics, physical testing, and data-driven modeling.
What you'll do#
- Improve CFD workflows, including CAD preparation, geometry cleanup, meshing, solver execution, and automated reporting.
- Develop tools for wind-tunnel testing, such as test planning, instrumentation, data acquisition, and data processing.
- Build and validate machine-learning or surrogate models to improve aerodynamic performance prediction and flow-field inference.
- Create AI-enabled tools to improve engineering productivity and support technical decision-making.
- Collaborate with engineers to define requirements, evaluate results, and communicate technical recommendations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in physics, mathematics, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or computational science.
- Graduation date of September 2027 or later.
- Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer.
- Experience developing CFD surrogate models, reduced-order models, or other data-driven methods.
- A foundation in mechanical design, aerodynamics, CFD, computer vision, three-dimensional generative design, machine learning, or scientific computing.
- Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated engineering capability through research, coursework, or technical projects.
- Clear communication skills for both specialized and cross-functional audiences.
- Preferred experience includes deep-learning models, scientific programming, version control, CI/CD, high-performance computing, or wind-tunnel testing.
Location & details#
- Location: Concord, North Carolina.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (expected to be on-site at the Charlotte Technical Center at least three days per week).
